How often should you rekey?

With employees returning to work or soon to return to work, the question might be, is now a good time to rekey your business? Which keys should be rekeyed? Office buildings and small businesses have dozen of locks for doors, file cabinets, cars and more. Each of these locks is opened with a key, and these keys are often accessed by more than one employee, and at times, contractors within the workplace. It's costly and impossible to keep changing, especially for larger companies. So how do you determine when your office should rekey its locks?

Our suggestion: Every 8 months to 2 years, depending on a few factors, such as, turnover rate of employees, ease of copying keys (high-security keys), and the value of what you're trying to protect. The more these factors present security threats the more regularly you should be rekeying your locks. And now would be a good time.

While employees are still out or slowly returning, if you did not collect their keys before they left, no telling who has had access to them. If you have any reason to believe that there is a risk to any of your locks or keys, rekeying them right away should be your priority.
